The goal of this annual event is to encourage area consumers of mental health services to become more proactive about their physical health. Mental health and physical health are inseparable and equally important components of wellness. Wellness Day is intended to ‘jump-start’ the process of getting regular checkups, communicating clearly with their doctors, and making smart choices about things like nutrition and exercise.

Sponsored by Pfizer, Inc., one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical firms, nearly 100 pre-registered clients at the Wellness event received free screenings for diabetes, hypertension and other potentially serious physical illnesses. Findings from the screenings are communicated to the clients, as well as to their psychiatrists and others involved in their recovery. Clients and his/her case management teams can then begin to work together to develop appropriate strategies relative to any physical health issued identified during the screenings.
